Valerio Rocco Orlando

I was born in 1978 in Italy and received a BA in Dramaturgy from Università Cattolica in Milan and an MA in Film Directing from Queen Mary, University of London. Crossing the threshold from an intimate portrait to a choral dialogue, through a variety of media, such as film, publications and installation, my face-to-face practice re-thinks and re-enacts the sense of belonging in different communities around the world. By defining art as a process of analysis and mutual knowledge, my goal is to produce an open discourse, collective and personal, both aesthetically and conceptually, that explores the osmosis between institutions, museums, academia and the social sphere.

My collaborations include working with French philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy, English composer Michael Nyman, artists Gilbert & George, Ugo Rondinone and Liam Gillick, Italian jazz singer Amalia Grè, supermodel Eva Riccobono, actors Saleh Bakri, Alba Rohrwacher, Kiana Tajammol and psychoanalyst Luigi Zoja. Through workshops and participatory practice I make films and books as a result of a constant exchange between the participants and the audience.
