Goethe-Institut Barcelona
The Goethe-Institut is Germany’s cultural institute and plays a central role in the country’s cultural and educational policies. With a network of 159 branches in 98 countries, it enables mobility in an international learning community through its educational and training products. Further, it encourages cultural exchange by organizing events, festivals and exhibitions in the fields of film, dance, music, theatre, literature and gaming. The Goethe Institute's Barcelona office, founded in 1955, has strong ties within the local and regional cultural community and a long-standing reputation as an institution that promotes cultural diversity. It collaborates strongly with various Catalan institutions. Since 2014 it has an active role in creating and supporting networks in the Mediterranean area. In 2016 it organized a week-long meeting with different organisations and experts from Spain and Germany about decolonization and migration.
